DDEX Events

DDEX hosts a number of events during the year, including webinars and workshops which provide opportunities to learn more about the standards and their implementation and two members-only Plenary meetings in the Spring and Autumn to create and revise the standards themselves. DDEX also speaks regularly at conferences around the world on issues related to metadata.

Webinars provide a comprehensive introduction to each standard and the approach that should be adopted with regard to certain subjects common to all the standards. The list of webinars for the fourth quarter of 2020 are set out below. The webinars are about an hour in length. Whether you’re interested in a single webinar or all of them, you can register here. Videos of previous DDEX events can be found on our Resources page.

DDEX will also be hosting a virtual Creator Credit Summit in two hour sessions across three days from 17th to 19th November. The Summit will explore the issue of improving the gathering of metadata about music as it is created in the studio. A whole range of metadata needs to be collected about the musical works and the sound recordings created, all the contributors – be they artists, composers, session musicians, producers, engineers – information about the equipment and instruments used and much more. All to ensure that all the right people get paid and receive credit for their work!! You can register for this below.

Webinar: How writers, artists, engineers and other contributors are communicated in DDEX messages

However, care needs to be taken as to what contributor information goes where in the messages as this may affect credits and potentially royalty payments. This webinar will explain the best way to populate contributor information in DDEX messages to ensure full understanding for the recipient of the message.

Webinar: How deals are communicated using DDEX ERN messages

The ERN Standard enables record companies and distributors to communicate to their digital music service partners details about a release and its availability. Therefore, as well as metadata describing the releases (such as title, artist, catalogue number), the message also contains information about how the digital music service partner can use the release – known as Deals in the ERN Standard. This webinar will explain the best way to populate Deal information in the ERN Standard to ensure full understanding for the recipient of the message.
