Riq |
A small, tambourine-like frame drum used in Arabic music. The smaller cousin of the Mazhar. Unlike many other frame drums, it is often played alone, rather than simultaneously as the player sings. It is typically played dramatically and freely, alternating between being violently shaken above the head and lowered down to the knee. |
