Minimalism
Uses limited musical materials. Tends to lack the sense of progression between sections found in other classical-derived music styles. Minimalist music often uses a small set of slow-moving and simple harmonies, strung together in a trancelike steady rhythmic pulse and part of a constantly shifting quilt of repeated phrases and smaller melodic units of music. Some minimalist music relies on processes such as phase shifting. Archetypal composers include Terry Riley, John Adams, and Steve Reich.
