Grunge
Has its roots in Punk and Heavy Metal with heavily distorted guitars and lyrical themes of existential angst. Grunge was a reaction to the polished production, overwrought showmanship and fashion of mainstream music in the 1980s. However, in the 1990s Grunge dominated mainstream rock music due to the success of bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
