CanCan
Lively French dance of obscure origin. It became a popular music hall dance in the 1840s. Fast and in 2/4, the Can-Can was initially danced to music written for the galop and for its likely progenitor, the quadrille. Music written specifically for the Can-Can began to emerge in the mid-19th century.
