BritPop
Britpop is an amalgam of various group from English Pop history: The Beatles, The Kinks, David Bowie, The Smiths and XTC (among a plethora of others) created music which would influence a generation of British performers. Britpop focuses on British culture and the British experience with little regard for how it is perceived outside of British Society. Although it may have been moderately popular in foreign underground music scenes, the music is/was highly commercialized in the UK. Britpop typically has a bright sound, as the genre was formed as a response to the darker lyrical trends of popular music at the time.
