Synonym(s) Designation
Comments Scope:
A Designation is a representation of a Descriptor. A Descriptor is a Concept which may be expressed in different Designations, for example: • NormalForm – eg 'The Last of the Mohicans' • IndexedForm – eg 'Last of the Mohicans, The' • Transliterated Form – eg (in Arabic script) Any Designation must be derivable systematically from its Descriptor. For example, 'John Smith', 'Smith, John' and 'Smith, J' are different Designations of the same Name because they are constructed using formal rules, whereas 'John Smith' and 'Johnny Smith' are different Names because the latter is not systematically derivable from the former.
