AudioCodec
A supporting term for the messages.
An algorithm to compress and uncompress an AudioResource for storage and/or transmission.
Relationships      
Parents Codec An algorithm to compress and uncompress a Resource for storage and/or transmission. Note that this is not a container format (e.g. WAV files can use PCM and MP3 codecs).
Children AAC Advanced Audio Coding as standardized in ISO/IEC 13817-7.
  ADPCM Adaptive Differential PCM audio as defined in ITU G.721, 726 and 727.
  ALaw An AudioCodec to optimize, i.e. modify, the dynamic range of an analogue signal for digitizing, mostly used in Europe.
  AMR Adaptive Multi-Rate AudioCodec.
  FLAC Free Lossless Audio Codec developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation..
  MP MPEG Audio Layer, as standardized in ISO/IEC 11172-3 and 13818-3.
  MQA Master Quality Authenticated, an AudioCodec developed by Meridian Audio.
  MuLaw An AudioCodec to optimize, i.e. modify, the dynamic range of an analogue signal for digitizing, mostly used in North America and Japan.
  PCM Pulse-code modulated audio as used e.g. on audio CDs. Typically, but not exclusively, PCM bit streams are communicated in WAV containers.
  PDM Pulse-Density Modulation, a form of modulation used to represent an analog signal with digital data. Direct-Stream Digital (DSD) is the trademark name used by Sony and Philips for PDM.
  QCELP Qualcomm Code Excited Linear Prediction as developed by Qualcomm.
  RealAudio Real Audio as developed by RealNetworks Inc.
  Shockwave Shockwave as developed by Macromedia Inc.
  Vorbis An AudioCodec developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation.
  WMA Windows Media Audio as developed by Microsoft Corp.
