2  Introduction to DDEX09:00 – 10:00

DDEX standards have been designed to be used to communicate data in the context of a wide range of business transactions right across the digital music value chain.
This session will introduce attendees to how DDEX is set up and managed and how it creates its standards. There will also be an explanation of the various standards DDEX has published, what types of companies would normally exchange messages using these standards, and the nature of the data communicated by each standard.
Speaker:
Mark Isherwood – DDEX Secretariat

3 Introduction to Musical Works Data and Rights standards 10:00 – 10:30

There are four Musical Works Data and Rights standard message suites. Three of these are very much related:

(a) Musical Works Notification choreography standard (MWN) enables companies to exchange information relating to claims of ownership of musical works embodied in releases;
(b) Musical Works Licensing choreography standard (MWL) enables companies to request and to be granted licences for using such musical works;
(c) Letters of Direction (LoD) enables owners of musical works embedded in releases to notify users of such musical works that the ownership of the works has changed, in order that the new owner is paid the relevant royalties going forward; and
(d) Bulk communication of Work And Recording Metadata (BWARM) provides a mechanism for the communication of data about musical works and the sound recordings or music videos that make use of those musical works. In addition, the standard enables the communication of right shares in relation to the musical works set out in the message.

This session will provide an explanation of the BWARM standard.
Speakers:
Niels Rump – DDEX Secretariat
Steffen Lindek – DDEX Secretariat

7  MWN implementation experiences 11:45 – 13:00

The MWN standard was published in 2014. Since then a number of companies have implemented MWN into their systems as they have recognised the benefits of doing so.
As a result there is now a wealth of experience about how implementation of this standard is approached, how such implementations have influenced later versions of the standard, lessons learnt as well as some of the potential challenges implementers may face. Therefore, during this session, members of DDEX will provide explanations of how implementing MWN has benefited their company, explain how they approached the implementation, detail any challenges they came across and how these were resolved.
